We would like to introduce our new vocal duo-- our cousins Ernesto "La Negra" Cadena and Ernesto Cadena Jr. Ernesto previously sang in the conjunto in the late 80's and early 90's on some of those great Canasta Records recordings. He later went on to sing primera voz with Ruben Naranjo y los Gamblers for several years before taking a break from music. He has since returned to the conjunto along with his son Ernesto Jr. to help form a new vocal sound to the group. We hope that you enjoy this new lineup including la voz femenina-Ruby Franco and the new CD that has just been released that features this new vocal duo. Our previous singers Genaro Perez and Genaro Perez III had to bow out of the group for health and work-related reasons and we thank them for all the years of great work and even better music that we put together.

I have added more Canasta recordings to the discography. I have also been trying to rotate more music on our myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/chanocadenaysuconjunto . If you would like to hear a certain song on our myspace page, send me a request via email and I will do my best to try to get that rola posted for you. Scheduling conflicts and other obstacles have indefinitely delayed work on a new CD. We hope to be in the studio sometime in February 2007. Looking over the material we hope to record, this CD looks to be something worth the wait. Omar

I am saddened to announce the passing Toño Vasquez, an intergral member of Chano's Conjunto starting in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980's and off and on in the 1990's. Toño along with Fidel Cavazos formed perhaps the most talented vocal duo Chano has ever had. Toño was a master bajo player and multi-instumentalist. Singing some of the best boleros and musica romantica that were popular in those times, his primera voz along with Fidel on segunda formed a unique and beautiful vocal harmony that would become the signature sound of Chano's conjunto in the 1970's and 80's. Toño in the last few years recorded some CDs on his own and and some of his tracks are currently played on local radio station throughout South Texas. He will be missed. Check out some pictures of Toño with Chano Cadeny y su Conjunto here.

Sorry folks for the late updates on this site---been so busy with work, home, etc. I would like to report that we are currently working some new material for a possible new CD perhaps ready by late August. Our biggest problem is finding good days for all of us to get together! Most of have work and family considerations that make it hard to get us all together. Hopefully, we will be in the studio in the next 2-4 weeks. I also working on getting more info on the Bio section of this website. My uncle Ernesto Cadena is the resident historian of this outfit and he has so much material about the history of conjunto music particularly for the area in and around Alice. Much of the old discography information on this site is from his vast music collection of conjunto and tejano music. He has been collecting since the 1950s. Please check out our new Guestbook Feel free to sign the guest book and send me an email if you have any questions: omar@puroalice.com In the mean time, I really have been enjoying a CD Monarca Special by Los Monarcas de Pete y Mario Diaz I highly recommend this CD (i guarantee it will be the only thing in you CD player for weeks) if you really want to hear some excellent conjunto music from a talented conjunto that dates back three generations - They also have a brand new CD out - Maldito Destino. Hacienda has a great price on these CDs so check them out.

Chano Cadena Featured in New Book Called Conjunto
Chano was recently featured in the John Dyer book Conjunto. With an introduction by Texas Monthly's Joe Nick Patoski, John Dyer profiles in beautiful color photographs many South Texas conjunto pioneers. Juan Tejada also profiles the pioneers and prefaces the book with a history of South Texas Conjunto.
